BARGE Quickstart

BARGE is a new tabletop roleplaying game system inspired by games like Dicey Dungeon, Battle Brothers and Magic the Gathering and alternative takes on d20 based TTRPGs. 

In combat, BARGE creates a fast and reactive combat experience:

• Dynamic Initiative keeps your players in the fight, even when it isn’t their turn, because as long as they have dice, they have something they can do.

• Active Defense makes defending a decision to be made in real time and makes every attack count.

• Pre-Luck Dice Pool gives everyone at the table the tools they need from the time initiative is rolled.

• Dice Manipulation gives all characters powerful tools to assist each other.

Out of Combat, BARGE creates flexible and easy to resolve systems to get the table back to the story:

• Skills, Not Stats 
  • Unchaining your characters from stats allows you to build a character and explain how it works without needing to break the fiction of the character.

• Progressive Skill Dice 
  • No stats, means no stat modifiers! Just roll all the dice your skill allows you to roll and take the highest one.

• Working together 
  • Skilled characters can help cover the flaws of less skilled characters automatically. Be your buddies wingman, stealth guide, even give them tips on how to clear that gorge!

• Build Your Character, Your Way 
  • A flexible feat based progression system lets you make the character you want, in the way you want to play them. Make that Barbarian that inspires with battle chants! Make that cleric that plays guitar! That Ranger that definitely never uses magic!

• A sample adventure for level 1 adventurers, designed with help for first time Game Masters
• A Sample Bestiary to make your own low level adventures in BARGE
• Blank Character Sheets
• 8 Pre-Made Characters, with cheatsheets
• A print sheet with paper minis and battlemap for sample adventure

BARGE is in development and this document will see occasional updates. There is so much more to be added that just wasn't ready for this document. 

This document is very mechanically focused, with some implied setting baked in, but virtually no worldbuilding, which will come in subsequent documents.
